Lots of people get hung up on equipment and constantly need the "latest and greatest."
Having decent gear helps, but far more important in being able to make interesting pictures is an ability to notice and capture brief moments in time that make people stop and say to themselves "wow..look at that!".
For the record, I use Nikon bodies and lenses.
